COINiD → Hardware wallet

A dedicated signing device — Trezor, Coldcard, Blockstream Jade, Ledger, BitBox and others — is the best long-term home for funds you kept in COINiD cold storage.

Buy directly from the manufacturer. Never buy a hardware wallet second-hand or from a marketplace reseller, and never use a device that arrives with a seed phrase already set up or included in the box.

How to migrate

Don't type your COINiD phrase into the device — generate a fresh seed on the hardware and move the funds to it. Since the COINiD apps can no longer send transactions, restore your phrase in a software wallet first:

  1. Restore your COINiD phrase in BlueWallet, Sparrow or Electrum so you can access the funds. Follow that wallet's guide (derivation path m/49'/0'/0' for a default COINiD wallet), and give it several minutes to sync your balance and history after import.
  2. Set up the hardware device following the manufacturer's instructions and let it generate a new seed. Back it up on paper.
  3. Install the companion app (Trezor Suite, Ledger Live, etc.) or connect the device to Sparrow or Electrum.
  4. Copy a receive address and verify it on the device's screen.
  5. Send your full balance to that address from the wallet you restored in step 1.
  6. Wait for confirmation. Done — your funds now sit on keys that have never existed on a phone or computer.

Some devices can import a 12-word BIP39 phrase directly, but importing a phone-generated seed into a hardware device defeats much of its purpose. Treat that as a temporary recovery measure, not a destination.
