COINiD → Electrum

Electrum is a long-standing, open-source desktop wallet for Windows, macOS and Linux, with full control over derivation paths and solid cold-storage workflows.

Only download Electrum from electrum.org and ideally verify the GPG signature. Fake Electrum sites are a common scam.

First, get your 12-word recovery phrase from COINiD Vault — see the steps on the main page (Vault → Settings → Backup).

Restore your COINiD phrase

  1. In Electrum: File → New/Restore → name the wallet → Standard walletI already have a seed.
  2. Type your 12 words. Electrum won't accept them yet — click Options and tick BIP39 seed (COINiD phrases are BIP39, not Electrum's native format). Leave "Extend this seed with custom words" unchecked. Click Next.
  3. Choose the script type matching your COINiD wallet:
    Electrum optionDerivation pathCOINiD address type
p2sh-segwitm/49'/0'/0'Segwit — the default, addresses start with 3
    legacym/44'/0'/0'Legacy, addresses start with 1
native segwitm/84'/0'/0'Bech32, addresses start with bc1
Unsure? Use Electrum's Detect Existing Accounts button to scan automatically.
  4. Click Next, set a wallet password, and let it sync — it can take several minutes before your balance and full transaction history appear.

Wallet still shows zero balance after syncing for a while? It's almost always the wrong script type. Create a new wallet (File → New/Restore) and try the other paths from the table.

After migrating

Your paper backup still controls these funds — keep it safe. Recommended: create a fresh Electrum wallet (new seed) and send your funds to it. Your COINiD phrase has spent years stored on a phone — retiring it costs one transaction fee.

Cold wallet users

If your COINiD setup was a cold wallet, typing its phrase into an online computer downgrades its security — do it only to move the funds, and move them promptly. For a proper cold setup going forward, send the funds to a hardware wallet, or restore on a permanently offline machine and use Electrum's cold storage workflow with a watching-only wallet online.
